A younger brother of Tottenham player Serge Aurier was reportedly shot dead in the French city of Toulouse outside a nightclub.
Christopher Aurier died in the hospital after emergency services found him shot in the stomach in an industrial area on the outskirts of the city, French media say.
Her suspected killer escaped the scene, a source close to the investigation said.
Christopher Aurier, who was a citizen of the Ivory Coast like his brother, was also a footballer and played in France.
A Tottenham statement said: “The club is deeply saddened to confirm media reports that Serge Aurier’s brother passed away in the early hours of this morning.
“We are supporting Serge at this difficult time and we ask that the privacy of the player and his family be respected. Everyone at the club sends their deepest condolences to Serge and his family. Our thoughts go out to all of them.”
How he died?
Emergency services arrived at the scene around 05:00 (03:00 GMT) on Monday, reports French television.
Local people had called the police when they found the victim lying on the ground with a stomach wound.
According to a Europe 1 report, he was wounded when two bullets were fired at a nightclub.
The Toulouse newspaper La Dépêche published a photo of what it said was the crime scene outside the Kin nightclub near Boulevard de Thibaud.
Who Was Christopher Aurier?
The 26-year-old had played for the local team Rodéo Toulouse, which was in the French fifth division last season, after seasons at the Racing Club in Lens, Gueugnon, Chantilly and the Belgian club Rebecq, reports Le Figaro.
Her brother Serge, 27, is a right-back at the Tottenham club in the Premier League and also captains the Ivory Coast national team.
