CNN’s Chris Cuomo criticized Donald Trump on Wednesday, accusing the President of the United States of using a photo of himself posing with Goya food products to divert attention from an opinion piece criticizing Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Trump chastised business adviser Peter Navarro for his comments in the scathing piece published in USA Today, which wrecks the country’s leading infectious disease expert for his work in the president’s workforce on coronaviruses.
Navarro accuses Fauci of being “ wrong about everything I’ve interacted with ”, among other comments that critics saw as an attempt to discredit the epidemiologist’s warnings about new waves in COVID-19 infection rates throughout the country.
The president responded to what the administration considered a dishonest move by saying that Navarro had made a “statement representing himself” and should not be doing that.
Fauci responded in an interview on Wednesday, calling the attacks on him “strangers.”
“Ultimately, it hurts the president to do that,” Fauci told the Atlantic. Cuomo went a step further by suggesting that Trump’s reprimand of Navarro was false after Goya’s food image appeared on Instagram.
“On your dime, in the midst of a pandemic, they are selling beans!” says @ChrisCuomo, outraged by Pres. Photo of Trump’s “magic beans”.

CNN’s Chris Cuomo criticized Donald Trump on Wednesday, accusing the President of the United States of using a photo shoot of himself posing with Goya food products to divert attention from an opinion piece criticizing Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Trjmp appears in the image next to a bag of Goya beans and other food products from the Spanish food label.
‘You tell me how a president in the midst of a pandemic has had time for this bull. Are you kidding me?’ Outraged Cuomo said in his broadcast Wednesday night, showing a photo of Trump giving two thumbs up as he posed with a bag of Goya beans and other products from the Spanish food label.
In your dime, in the midst of a pandemic, they are selling beans! Cuomo had also said.
The products were displayed on the Resolute Desk in Oval’s office, a detail that seemed to further trigger Cuomo.
Is this what you’ve decided on? Cuomo joked, also noting that President Ivanka’s daughter was criticized for posing with a can of Goya black beans in a similar photo posted on social media Tuesday.
That night’s tweet, written in English and Spanish, said ‘If it’s Goya, it has to be good’, which is the brand’s family slogan.
The president’s daughter took office after Goya CEO Robert Unanue appeared at a Hispanic leaders event last week at the White House with Trump, whom he repeatedly praised, saying ‘we are all truly blessed.’ to have him as president.
Almost immediately afterward, #BoycottGoya, #GoyaFoods, and #Goyaway became popular on social media platforms.
The president’s daughter Ivanka was criticized for posing with a can of Goya black beans in a similar photoshoot posted on social media Tuesday (pictured).
Several big names influenced the debate, citing the Trump story of derogatory comments and harsh policies toward Hispanics, in particular, the administration’s policy of separating immigrant families on the U.S.-Mexico border.
Critics also pounced on Ivanka’s post and raised questions about whether there should be an ethical investigation into the first daughter’s actions, because she officially serves as an adviser to the president.
Ethics laws prohibit government employees from promoting private companies and their products.

“An employee shall not use or permit the use of his government title or title or any authority associated with his public office to endorse any product, service, or company,” the law says.
The White House argued that Ivanka Trump “has every right to express her personal support” for the company.
“ Only the media and the culture-canceling movement would criticize Ivanka for showing her personal support for a company that has been unfairly mocked, boycotted, and ridiculed for supporting this administration, one that has always fought and surrendered by the Hispanic community. Ivanka is proud of this strong Hispanic-owned business with deep roots in the United States and has every right to express her personal support, “said spokeswoman Carolina Hurley.
