The Oval Office is the office of the President of the United States. Every time a new president enters the White House, he often adds a personal touch to the interior décor here. The accessories President Biden placed in his new office also provoked interpretation.
Today’s room is filled with portraits and busts of some of the most iconic and influential leaders in American history.
“For President Biden, it is an important thing to walk into an oval office that looks like the United States and can show what kind of territory the president will rule,” said the deputy director of Oval Office Operations. Ashley Williams told the Washington Post on an exclusive show.
Before moving in, the portrait of Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States, had been removed. Donald Trump is often compared to this populist. Like Trump, the president was also criticized during his tenure, but he was not charged.
Jackson’s portrait was originally placed on the left side of the Resolute Desk, but now this position has been replaced by the portrait of the founding father of the United States, Benjamin Franklin. Franklin is also a famous writer, scientist, and philosopher. The Washington Post reported that Franklin’s portrait symbolized President Biden’s willingness to comply with science, who was trying to deal with the new crown epidemic.

Looking up from his desk, Biden could see the busts of the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy on the side of the fireplace. Biden is said to have often mentioned the role of the two in the civil rights movement in his speech.
Additionally, the other busts in this room include another prominent figure in the civil rights movement, Rosa Parks. According to the Washington Post, there is also a work by sculptor Allan Houser, depicting an Apache Chiricahua horseman and a horse, this sculpture belonged to Democratic Senator Daniel Inouye of Hawaiian origin (Daniel Inouye).

Above the fireplace hangs a large portrait of Franklin D. Roosevelt, the president who led the United States out of the Great Depression and World War II.
Another portrait of the former president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson, was combined with the portrait of the former Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, Alexander Hamilton (Alexander Hamilton), who often disagrees with him. Biden’s office told the Washington Post that this symbolized that expressing disagreement in the United States was “essential to democracy.”
Portraits of the other two famous former US presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, were also paired.

Many social media users noted that there was a bust of César Chávez, a Mexican American and union leader, placed on the table behind Biden’s desk. Chávez fought for the rights of farm workers in the 1960s and 1970s. His bust is placed with several photos of Biden’s family.

The gold curtains and carpets that Trump brought to the White House after taking office in 2017 disappeared on January 20. They were replaced by a dark blue carpet and dark gold curtains that were used to decorate the oval office when Bill Clinton was president.
During the Trump era, flags representing different branches of the military were also superseded and replaced by the American flag and the American presidential flag.
The controversial bust of British wartime leader Winston Churchill was also removed.
The bust was removed by Barack Obama once before, and Trump returned it. The then British Foreign Secretary and current British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had accused Obama of having “an ancestral dislike of the British Empire.”
This time, Johnson’s spokesman said, “The Oval Office is the president’s private office and the way it is decorated is up to the president’s wishes.”
