Geraint Thomas will pedal three and a half days on his exercise bike for a good cause next week. The winner of the 2018 Tour wants to raise money to support the National Health Service (NHS) in Great Britain.
INEOS, the main sponsor of Thomas’s team, makes disinfectants for the NHS during the crown crisis. Thomas (33) is going to raise money for that project.
“These are difficult times, of course. The NHS is doing a great job and our INEOS team is working very hard to support hospitals across the country with disinfectants,” Thomas said in a video on Twitter.
“I also want to help a little and all I am good at is cycling,” said the Welshman. “That’s why I prepared a sponsor trip. I start in my garage in Zwift at 7:30 am on Wednesday. I am going to pedal for twelve hours for three days and all the money will go to the NHS.”
Thomas fears long sessions on an exercise bike
Thomas is a little concerned about his long sessions on the exercise bike. “I’ve never cycled that long before, so I’m a little nervous. I’ll be pretty tight at the end of the day, but it’s all for a good cause.”
Thomas broadcasts everything through a live broadcast over three days. In the first few hours the donation website opened, more than £ 8,000 (nearly 10,000 euros) was donated.
