Shown here is a specimen of the perfect model of the Bayannaoer dragon. The perfect Bayannaoer dragon’s name comes from its place of production, Bayannaoer. It is also a treasure of the Natural Museum of Inner Mongolia.

In October 2012,Inner Mongolia Longhao Institute of Geology and Biology and Bayannaoer City Land and Resources BureauDuring the joint investigation, the perfect Bayannaoer Dragon was discovered in the Chulumiao area of Uradhou Banner, Bayannaoer City, Inner Mongolia. At first, excavators found several fossils in an alluvial trench. These fossils are considered to have been dragged from a height. The scientific expedition team looked up the hillside and found the buried location of the dinosaur fossil in the middle of the mountain. In June 2013, a joint expedition tripartite team consisting of the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Longhao Institute of Geology and Paleontology, and the Bayannaoer Municipal Land and Resources Office began excavating. completely the fossil.
During the excavation, a total of more than 300 bone fossils were cleared and these fossils were identified as all from the same individual. After being restored and installed, this dinosaur fossil measures 9 meters long and 5 meters high, experts estimated that its integrity reached more than 95% and inferred that it lived in the early Cretaceous about 120 million years ago. This is one of the few Iguanodon dinosaur fossils found in my country, and it is also the most complete Iguanodon fossil discovered so far.
After investigation, this dinosaur skeleton is an adult individual, the sutures are well healed, and the degradation of the fourth trochanter in the femur is the result of long-term adaptation to quadruped gait. Their hoofed forefoot and ulnar scoliosis also show characteristics of walking on all fours. This also shows that Bayannaoerlong generally walks on four legs, can occasionally raise the forefoot, and walk on two legs.

The Perfect Bayannaursaurus also has a powerful weapon hidden in its body: the first finger of its long forelimb evolved into a hard bony phalanx, resembling a “large fingernail” shape, and became a powerful weapon against carnivorous dinosaurs. The remaining second, third, and fourth fingers are well developed and have some gripping ability, but the fifth finger is very small.
After detailed comparison and research by Professor Xu Xing of the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, it was determined that this dinosaur belonged to a new type of Iguanodon in the transition stage from Iguanodon to hadrosaur. . At the same time, he believes that this dinosaur fossil is so intact and rare in the world that it provides a new perspective for people to understand the early evolution and intercontinental spread of Iguanodon, and to understand the evolutionary process of hadrosaurs and all Jehol. The development of radiation from biota is of great importance.
