CCTV News(Reporter Zhu Xinyu and Li Dan): “The bird loves the old forest, the fish in the pond thinks of the old home.” Sitting in the doorway of Xujia’s old house in Yanergu Village, Luotian County, Huanggang City, Hubei Province, the “First Secretary” of Xu Zhixin Village recites this poem, which is the most faithful portrait of his heart.
Yan’s Nest Village, “Eight Mountains, One Water, and One Field” is located at the southern foot of the inland Dabie Mountains and is named after being surrounded by mountains on three sides and shaped like a bird’s nest. In a 12-kilometer-long valley, there are 6 impoverished villages, 48 groups of villagers, 1,392 households with 5,630 people, including 411 poor households with 1,277 people. In the past, the town of Yan’s Nest was poor, chaotic and poor, so they donned a “disgusting people” hat. The man could not marry a wife and the girl could not marry. Villagers eat out of mud and earn money from sweat. Cereal cultivation is the main method of production and the economic benefits are low. In the event of droughts and floods, your income is not guaranteed.
All of this, Xu Zhixin, a native of Xu Zhixin, looked anxiously into his eyes. In 2010, Xu Zhixin, who had worked abroad for many years and had already achieved wealth and freedom, responded to the country’s call and returned to Yanwoyuan village to “go home and start a business.” The elite lawyer became the first secretary, lifting the villagers and elders out of poverty and enriching themselves. “Building roads on every mountain, building bridges when it meets water”, Xu Zhixin combined local realities to create the “Swallow Valley” in Yanwoyan Village by “building joint parties, joint decision making, joint planning , joint office, joint investment, joint environmental protection and joint venture, “the company joined the village party branch to establish the first county village-level organization and the joint party branch of non-public enterprises – Luotian County Yanergu joint party branch, to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results between the village and the company.
In December 2014, Swallow Valley successfully passed the creation and national acceptance of AAA-level scenic spots. In just three years, the Yan’er Valley village has completed its transformation, and the arid mountains have turned into a sea of flowers, and the rugged road has turned smooth. At the end of 2016, Yanwoyuan Village passed the preliminary acceptance of “Household Poverty Alleviation and Village Departure” and became the “National Tourism Poverty Alleviation Pilot Village” determined by the Relief Bureau of the Poverty of the State Council and the National Tourism Administration.
Today’s Yan’s Nest Village has not only the largest tea plum base in China, but also a host of features such as Yangui Garden, Tea Plum Town, Tea Plum Garden, Nursery Base, Meiling, Magnolia Garden, Osmanthus Blossom and Cherry Blossom Garden. The nursery base has 12 agricultural hotels, 45 agricultural estates and 10 newly built tourist service stations. Tourism is booming and a complete industrial chain with leisure and tourism research and education for the elderly as the direction is gradually formed. Cultural, “agricultural support” and “agricultural education” and other forms of integrated development, mutual promotion and mutual development, and full bloom. Driven by tourism, the villagers said it was agriculture too. In the past, they grew rations, but now they grow staples.
The field is changing for the better, but Xu Zhixin realizes that “just planting flowers and grass is not competitive. It is impossible to fight for scale. If you want to fight, you have to fight for culture.” Abdominal poetry and gas from China! For the development of the Yaner Valley “out of nowhere”, we must understand culture as a basis. Thus arose the only “Nine Men and Eighteen Craftsmen” in Yan’s Nest Village.
In June 2018, Xu Zhixin established Hubei’s first rural artisan school in Yan’er Valley and issued a recruitment order for the “Nine Men and Eighteen Artisans” in the city, prioritizing the recruitment of poor artisans in villages of remote mountains and recruiting disadvantaged villagers as apprentices and helpers. The artisan school not only provides free workplaces for artisans, but also pays them 3,300 yuan a month and the products sold are also commissioned. According to Xu Zhixin, the artisan school covers an area of about 1,500 square meters and integrates traditional artisan heritage, promotion of the artisan spirit, rural revitalization and industrialization, and exhibition of intangible cultural heritage. In two years, more than 30 expert craftsmen have been hired.
Artisan schools have fueled the development of many related industries, including primary and secondary school research projects, rural tourism, and training. At present, the construction of the second phase of the School of Craftsmen has also begun. According to statistics, since its inception, the School of Craftsmen has received 280,000 tourists a year, sales of handicrafts reached more than 2 million and directly provided 46 jobs for nearby villagers.
In Xu Zhixin’s own words: “Leaving my hometown is changing myself, and returning to my hometown is changing the poor lives of my parents and villagers. The beauty of the village and the wealth of the farmers make me feel a sense of accomplishment. Although I have lifted the villagers out of poverty in recent years. In the company, the intensity of work is high and the green silk turns to gray, but I am happy! “
