I am very happy to return to the National University to attend the “China Ambassador Scholarship” award ceremony. First of all, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in East Asia, I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to all the award-winning students. He was awarded the “China Ambassador Scholarship” after rigorous double selection by the University and the Ministry of Higher Education, which shows that he is excellent. I also thank Dong National University, Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Culture for their strong support and cooperation for the smooth implementation of the “China Ambassador Scholarship” project. The project was established in 2019 and was first awarded in January 2020, and was very well received. The original intention of establishing the scholarship is to allow top students and students from low-income or poor families in the East to receive funds to successfully complete their studies and dedicate themselves to the development of the East and the cause of friendship in the Middle East.
“A strong youth is a strong country.” Young people are the future of the country and must be cared for with care. Today, all of you here are leading representatives of the youth of East Timor, leading the future of East Timor and holding the hope of East Timor. I sincerely hope that you can “hang the beams with your head and pierce the stocks”, study hard, master knowledge and skills, and become the pillars of national construction and development in the future. China is a vast country with five thousand years of civilization, the two countries of the Middle East are in Asia and are traditional friends. The east is an important stop on the ancient Maritime Silk Road. Historically, China has always strongly supported the national independence and development of East Timor. This year is a special year. The new corona pneumonia epidemic is raging and the world is facing major changes that have not been seen in a century. In the process of moving forward in building a community with a shared future for humanity and united in the fight against the epidemic, China and East Timor support and cooperate with each other. As the first country affected by the epidemic, China has received solidarity and support from many countries around the world, including East Timor. In return, China provided the first batch of emergency medical supplies to the east in early March this year, becoming the first country to extend a helping hand to the east, and also the first country to organize chartered flights to the east for massive attendance. So far, it has provided assistance to the east. An average of each oriental citizen can receive nine batches of medical supplies, of which more than a million masks. In international cooperation against the epidemic, China has always been one of East Timor’s most trusted friends and partners. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the governments and peoples of the two countries, the epidemic situation in the two countries has been fundamentally improved and effectively controlled, and a proud victory has been achieved. Especially for a country with a fragile healthcare system like East Timor, the results are even more difficult. I want to congratulate the government and the people of the East.
While keeping an eye on the virus, as the epidemic is effectively controlled at home, the two Middle Eastern countries have embarked on the task of economic stability and recovery. According to reports from the International Monetary Fund and others, China will be the only major economy that can maintain positive growth this year and is expected to resume growth at 7-8% next year. The East Timor economy is also expected to change from negative growth this year to 3-5% next. Not long ago, the Fifth Plenary Session of the XIX Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was held in Beijing. It reviewed and approved recommendations on formulating long-term goals for the next five years and 2035. The relevant statement noted that China is entering a new stage of development and will firmly apply innovation, coordination, green and The new concept of development of openness and sharing will accelerate the construction of a new development pattern with national and international cycles as the pillar and mutual promotion of national and international cycles. Later, President Xi Jinping participated in a series of online multilateral diplomatic activities, such as the 3rd China International Import Expo, the 17th China-ASEAN Expo, the 27th APEC Economic Leaders Meeting and the G20 Summit, etc. ., to explain in more detail to the world. China’s future development plans and various initiatives have been presented. President Xi Jinping’s series of speeches and various initiatives put forward by China are committed to building consensus, boosting trust and promoting development together. The reshaping of the post-epidemic world has pointed the way.
China’s prosperity and development have proven to provide opportunities for development for all countries, and China’s relevant proposals and initiatives today are sure to provide more opportunities for cooperation and greater development space for countries like East Timor. East is actively implementing the country’s strengthening strategy and has issued many economic stimulus plans for the post-epidemic era. The two countries can increase cooperation and develop together. China is the world’s largest consumer market, and Dong can export more products to achieve mutual benefits and win-win results. For example, the well-known cat feces coffee in East Timor, after its appearance at the China International Import Expo, is being favored by more and more Chinese consumers. Both sides in the Middle East are expected to strengthen their confidence, seize the opportunity and jointly write a new chapter in the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

There is an old Chinese saying “Ten years of trees, 100 years of trees”, which means that growing young people requires great attention and continued investment in education. China has always attached importance to the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of culture and education, and has provided assistance within its capacity to the East for many years. For example, China offers scholarships for young oriental students to study in China every year so that they can obtain Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degrees in China. So far, more than 200 oriental students have received this scholarship. Last year, the Chinese Embassy implemented the “Scholarships for Chinese Ambassadors” program at Dong Guo University for the first time. In the future, the program will be extended to other Dong Guo universities and the number of honorees will gradually increase. I hope this new project will become another beautiful business card for the friendly cooperation in education in the Middle East. I hope that through this project, more young people in the East will learn about China and traditional friendship in the Middle East, and become promoters and promoters of friendly relations in the Middle East.
