Pieter van Vollenhoven was part of the Winged Friends piano trio from 1986 to 2003. Princess Margriet’s husband calls the late jazz pianist “a friend to remember”.
Cor Bakker: “It determined 80 percent of my musical life”
Cor Bakker made music together with Van Dijk for 25 years and thought that his childhood idol was at a lonely height. “It determined 80 percent of my musical life,” said Van Dijk’s fellow pianist, who encouraged him to continue in music when he was seventeen.
Wilfried de Jong was “finished” after a performance
The creator of the show Wilfried de Jong recalls that he heard Van Dijk on the radio with jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie and then ‘finished’.
Michiel Borstlap: ‘Sir Louis for me’
Concert pianist and composer Michiel Borstlap recalls that in 1998 he didn’t see Van Dijk at first, but only heard him play at a festival. “In England he would be called Sir Louis van Dijk. Sir Louis you are to me,” says Borstlap of Van Dijk, who was awarded the title of Knight in the Order of the Lion of the Netherlands in 2000.
Arend Jan Boekestijn: “He enjoyed his improvisations”
Former VVD politician Arend Jan Boekestijn shares images of Van Dijk’s farewell performance in 2018. “I really enjoyed his improvisations,” said the former member of the House of Representatives.
