Fu Cong is the son of the famous scholar and translator Fu Lei, who has shown great musical talent since he was a child. In 1955, he won third place in the V International Chopin Piano Competition and the Best “Mazuka” Award. In early 1959, Fu Cong made his debut at London’s Royal Festival Hall and collaborated successfully with the famous director Giulini. On November 16, 2013, he was invited to Ningbo to perform a piano concert at the Great Theater of Ningbo Cultural Plaza. That night, Fu Cong played “Six Sonatas” by Scarlatti, “Salute to Haydn” by Debussy, “E Major Sonata No. 109” by Beethoven, “G Major Sonata” by Schubert 894. “Fu Cong has a habit of acting, Wherever he goes to perform, he will practice the piano alone in the performance hall for several hours before the performance. In March 1955, he won third place in the world’s most prestigious and authoritative piano competition: the Chopin International Piano Competition and the Chopin “Mazurka” Best Performance Award. The judges around the world and the audience were surprised and thought that Chopin played the “rich soul of Chopin”. Fu Cong first performed in Europe in 1956. During the 20 years of the 1960s and 1970s, he performed around 2,400 solo concerts and was known as the “Piano Poet.”
In Fu Cong’s piano life, his father had a very important influence on him. As the eldest son of the famous Chinese scholar, art theorist and translator Fu Lei, Fu Cong has been influenced by the artistic atmosphere and academic spirit of his family since childhood. All of Fu Cong’s achievements in music were gradually achieved by the teachings of his father Fu Lei. In “Fu Lei’s Home Letter”, there is a phrase that left a deep impression on readers: Fu Lei taught Aizi to “be a human first, then an artist, then a musician, and finally a pianist.”
