PEC Zwolle fears departure of main sponsor, says goodbye to Wennemars | NOW

PEC Zwolle is hit hard by the crown crisis. The Eredivisie club has to make big cuts this summer to keep its head above water.

The club does not extend the expiring contract of former top skateboarder Erben Wennermars. He worked as an advisor and performance coach at the club.

Young PEC coach Albert van der Haar and explorer Ben Hendriks also have to leave. The two have been working at PEC for years and count as club icons.

PEC previously announced that players Lennart Thy, Rick Dekker, Jarni Koorman and Stanley Elbers will not receive a new contract. Expired contracts will also not be renewed for office workers.

“These are all unfortunate decisions, which we must make in the club’s interest. Our labor costs represent about 80 percent of our expenses,” writes President Adriaan Visser on the PEC site.

PEC’s budget is expected to fall by € 2 million

The people of Zwolle fear that they will have to say goodbye to the main sponsor Molecaten, who has got into serious trouble due to the crown crisis. “Despite an ongoing deal, it remains to be seen whether this loyal and extremely loyal club member can remain on board,” Visser said.

Additionally, about 22 percent of business members have now canceled their engagement. That is double compared to last year. PEC’s budget is expected to fall by € 2 million.

PEC is fifteenth in the ranking after 26 matches and is still unsure of its compliance. Like Ajax, AZ, PSV, Fortuna Sittard and RKC Waalwijk, the club recently called for the end of the season.
