The prosecution charged Lao Rongzhi with being involved in the crimes of intentional homicide, kidnapping and robbery in the four crimes of Nanchang in 1996, Wenzhou in 1997, Changzhou in 1998 and Hefei in 1998. The court showed Lao Rongzhi’s payment receipt and the paper he wrote threatening others and other physical evidence. At the same time, the family of Hefei’s victim, the little carpenter, filed an incidental civil lawsuit, demanding compensation of approximately 1.35 million yuan. Property obtained from the theft was “temporarily kept by Lao Rongzhi, but under Faziying’s control.” Lao Rongzhi said she had performed four abortions for Faziying before and after, “she was struck in a sunken skull and often bruised on her body. She had to wear long pants.”
According to Lao Rongzhi in court, after Faziying was arrested, his escape route was first from Hefei to Wuhan, then to Henan, then to Chongqing and Xiamen around 2000.
Lao Rongzhi apologized to the victim’s family in court, saying that for the past two decades his heart has been tormented: “I admit what I have done and I have responsibilities that I cannot avoid. Lao Rongzhi said that after being taken to the Nanchang Detention Center, he felt very comfortable in his heart and finally had a place to sleep in peace. In court, Lao Rongzhi expressed his willingness to compensate the victim’s family, but his savings are only more than 30,000 yuan.

However, Zhu Dahong, wife of one of the victims, “Little Carpenter”, and Liu Jingjie, his lawyer, believed that it was unreasonable to say that Lao Rongzhi had been coerced into committing the crime.
