Hunter Biden, the son of President-elect Joe Biden, said his tax affairs are under investigation.
The investigation was conducted by the Delaware federal prosecutor.
Hunter Biden stated that he took the case “very seriously” but was confident that an “objective review” would find that he had handled his affairs “legally and reasonably.”
Biden’s transition team with Harris (He Jinli) stated that the president-elect is “deeply proud of his son.”
A statement from the team indicated that Hunter has “endured many difficult challenges, including fierce personal attacks in recent months, but came back with a stronger stance.”
Hunter Biden stated that he learned of the investigation on Tuesday (December 8), but did not reveal any further details.
Hunter Biden, 50, has been a frequent target of Republicans during the 2020 US elections. The main focus has been Joe Biden’s business cooperation in Ukraine and China during his tenure as vice president of the Obama administration.
In December last year, the president of the United States, Trump, was impeached by the Democratic-dominated House of Representatives. The accusation was of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The source was Trump’s attempt to pressure Ukraine to investigate Biden and his son.
The impeachment case was approved in the House of Representatives, but rejected in the Senate. The Republican-controlled Senate acquitted Trump on February 5 and did not need to resign.
For Hunter Biden’s tax investigation, his father was preparing a cabinet. The Associated Press reported that if the case continues when Biden is sworn in as president next month, Biden’s chosen attorney general may be responsible for overseeing the investigation.
Analysis: the spotlight remains on Hunter

The presidential election is over, but it appears that Hunter, the son of President-elect Joe Biden – the target of Republicans throughout the campaign – remains the focus of the news.
The news that Hunter is undergoing a tax investigation is not entirely surprising. There have been many signs of research in this area over many months. However, with official confirmation, there will be more external scrutiny; this can be a headache for the president-elect.
If the Republican Party continues to control the United States Senate, then the hearings on Hunter’s tax affairs, and any involvement in President Biden, are the expected inevitable outcome. And if the investigation turns into a formal prosecution, then the political concerns of the Biden family can turn into a very real lawsuit.
Although Trump’s critics will immediately accuse the outgoing president of orchestrating the investigation as political retaliation, the US attorney for Delaware behind the investigation, David Weiss is an experienced prosecutor. Although appointed by the current president, Weiss served as a deputy prosecutor and interim prosecutor during the time Democrat Obama was in charge of the White House.
Hunter Biden stated in the statement that he handled matters “in a legal and reasonable manner.” If this is the case, the matter will eventually disappear from people’s vision. However, being under the supervision of the Federal Judicial Microscope has never been a pleasant thing.
