Feyenoord wants to change the zoning plan for the city of Feyenoord Soccer

Feyenoord emphasizes that he is still betting on a new stadium on the banks of the Maas. Depending on the evolution of the corona virus, the club hopes to be able to tell more about the progress of the stadium project, which will cost 444 million euros, only on or after the summer.

If it turns out that the city of Feyenoord is not financially viable, the Rotterdam club wants to continue playing for the Kuip under current conditions. Experts have advised Feyenoord to request that the large-scale project zoning plan be amended at various points. Feyenoord now does not want to risk building homes on the land where De Kuip is now located, as outlined in the Feyenoord city zoning plan.

Alternative

Feyenoord’s request to adjust the zoning plan comes the day the DMK Consortium through the NRC announced plans for an alternative to building a new stadium. The renovation of De Kuip, with 200 million euros, would cost half less than the construction of a new soccer temple and could also be carried out in 2.5 years. The new stadium will not be completed until 2025 at the earliest.

After the renovation, De Kuip would receive a third ring, so that 63,000 viewers can watch Feyenoord’s home games. “The plan is intended to be a solution, should the new Feyenoord stadium eventually prove to be financially unfeasible,” said Erwin Eekelaar, one of the initiators of an alternative to Feyenoord City. “We don’t want to stop the new building, but we are ready when necessary. We are a kind of lifeguard if Feyenoord City is not successful.”

“We did not evaluate the plan in question and therefore we do not like it,” a Feyenoord spokesperson told the alternative to Feyenoord City. “The whole focus here is on overcoming the crown crisis and our ongoing research on the feasibility of a new stadium, about which we hope to make announcements as soon as possible in or after the summer.”
