Large fires occur on Monday afternoon in the Deurnese Peel nature reserve, on the border of North Brabant and Limburg, and in the De Meinweg National Park in Limburg.

According to the latest update from the fire brigade at 2.45 p.m., an area 800 by 500 meters was on fire in the Deurnese Peel. The fire spreads further due to the wind.

The fire brigade deployed twelve fire vehicles and six water tanks to fight the fire. A Defense fire helicopter was also called. To map the fire scene, the fire brigade flies a drone over the area. Local residents have received an alert from NL.

An NL alert was also issued in De Meinweg National Park due to smoke development. The fire brigade calls the “bystanders” to stay home. The fire brigade is assisted by German units.

The causes of the fires are still unclear. The drought of the past few weeks may have played an important role.
