Wang Yi said that since the outbreak of the coronary pneumonia epidemic, China and ASEAN, as friendly neighbors, support and help each other and work together to fight the epidemic, demonstrating the strategic importance of relations between China and ASEAN. China appreciates the work done by the ASEAN Secretariat and the Secretary-General to promote regional cooperation in the fight against epidemic diseases, and is ready to take advantage of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN dialogue relations next year as an opportunity to push bilateral relations to a new level.
Wang Yi said that ASEAN and China, Japan and South Korea (10 + 3) have successfully held a special meeting of leaders to combat the epidemic, have reached several important consensus and have sent positive messages from East Asian countries that They work together to overcome difficulties. We are ready to work with all parties to implement the results of the leadership meeting, unite, form a joint force, discuss the establishment of joint regional prevention and control, share the experience of prevention and control diagnosis and treatment, and cooperate in the research and development of pharmacological vaccines. China will continue to provide assistance with anti-epidemic materials according to the needs of ASEAN countries and will support the establishment of a special anti-epidemic fund for ASEAN. While strictly preventing and controlling the epidemic, both sides must take steps to gradually restore the normal economic and social order, maintain the necessary flow of people and logistics, maintain the stability of the regional industrial chain and supply chain, support the early signing of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Association Agreement (RCEP) and promoting regional economic integration. Wang Yi emphasized that today, all countries fight viruses and compete against death. The role of the World Health Organization is crucial and indispensable. Any attempt to discredit WHO or undermine international cooperation is unacceptable and must be condemned by conscience. We are ready to work with ASEAN to help WHO play a leading role in the fight against the epidemic.
Wang Yi also said that China and ASEAN countries have established a very mature and stable relationship and have become strategic partners with each other. Any issue can be properly handled through equal dialogue and friendly consultation. Extraterritorial forces provoke disagreements between China and ASEAN, create contradictions without support and will not succeed.
Lin Yuhui thanked China for its assistance and support of ASEAN’s anti-epidemic efforts. He said ASEAN stands ready to coordinate closely with China to implement the results of the special meeting of 10 + 3 leaders, jointly overcome the epidemic at an early date, promote economic recovery and development, promote sustainable interconnection and commit to reaching on time to RCEP. WHO plays a very important role, especially for developing countries, and deserves strong support.
