Ambassador to Germany Wu Ken accepted the live interview with the television station “Morning News” about the epidemic.
Question: The epidemic first broke out in China, and the situation was once very tense. How is the situation in China now?
Ambassador Wu: The epidemic first occurred in Wuhan, China, China has been actively pursuing the prevention and control of the epidemic for the past three months. The Chinese government has adopted a series of strict measures against the epidemic to close the 11 million people in Wuhan for 76 days. The current state of prevention and control of the epidemic in China is generally good. The last data I got was that the number of new cases yesterday was checked to two digits, reflecting the positive results of the epidemic prevention work. I believe China will overcome the epidemic in the near future.
Question: The epidemic has increased tensions in Sino-US relations. The data he mentioned has been questioned by the United States. (Insert relevant news clips). The state of Missouri has officially prosecuted China for the epidemic. Trump also accused China of concealing the epidemic. How do you respond?
Ambassador Wu: In the past, to deflect attention and shirk its responsibilities, the United States fabricated and distributed a number of conspiracy theories against China in the international community, which was not constructive. The “politicization” of the epidemic and conspiracy theories will not help combat the epidemic. Only the international community can work together to overcome difficult challenges.
Question: But there are some rumors about the source of the virus, what do you think about the source of the virus?
Ambassador Wu: I think the source of the virus is a scientific question, which should be studied by scientists and medical experts, not by diplomats and politicians. The Wuhan Virus Research Institute laboratory is consistent with the Robert Koch Institute laboratory in Berlin in terms of security level. It is impossible for viruses to leak from a high security laboratory. The person in charge of the virus office has also made it clear that there have been no cases of virus infections in the office.
Question: We must maintain an open attitude to research. In fact, scientists in both China and King’s College London have mentioned the leaked view of the lab. Does China allow academic and international social experts to conduct research in the form of independent committees?
Ambassador Wu: Since the outbreak, China has cooperated closely with WHO and experts from various countries. China’s epidemic data is truly public, and the reason it can keep a relatively low number of confirmed diagnoses is because China has taken comprehensive and stringent measures in a timely manner to stop the spread of the epidemic. China will continue to maintain close cooperation with WHO and experts from various countries to jointly combat the epidemic.
Question: Does this mean that all parties can continue to explore the possibility of an investigation by the international group of experts? But China also faces accusations of intentionally hiding the scale of the epidemic and the danger of the virus. In December last year, Dr. Li Wenliang, 34, released information on the epidemic, pointing to the danger of the virus, but he and several related medical staff were warned for “spreading rumors.” Dr. Li Wenliang passed away due to an infection. Has China underestimated the development of the previous epidemic situation?
Ambassador Wu: I would like to provide you with the following time points. On December 31 of last year, China first notified the relevant cases to WHO. Starting January 3, WHO and other countries, including the United States, will be notified regularly. On day 11, China shared the complete sequence of the virus gene with the world. An external circular on the 20th confirmed the transfer of people. On the 23rd, an unprecedented decision was made to close the Lihan Canal. All this indicates that China’s actions are timely and efficient. Li Wenliang is a good ophthalmologist who participated in the fight against epidemics, and his contribution was fully affirmed by the entire Chinese society.
Question: Despite this, the epidemic is still spreading and spreading globally, becoming a global epidemic. All countries need to experience a long period of time to face this disaster. Thank you for the interview
Ambassador Wu: Thank you.
