Ruili, a city on China’s southwestern border, had a further spread of the new corona epidemic this week, and the local government announced on March 31 that it would “close the city” of Ruili.

According to local government reports, as of March 30, 9 positive cases have been detected. In response, the local government announced that it will conduct nucleic acid testing for all employees in the city of Ruili, and will monitor vehicles and people leaving Ruili. In principle, “no entry, no exit”. At the same time, all the residents of Ruili City were isolated in their homes for a week.

This is the second time this China-Myanmar border city has been closed due to the new corona epidemic since September last year. Officials said the first positive case found this time was a citizen of Myanmar.

In September last year, two cases of illegal immigrants from Myanmar entered Ruili, causing the local epidemic to spread. As a result, Ruili “closed the city” and tightened border control. With the continuing coup and demonstrations in Myanmar, the outbreak of the epidemic has brought control of this border town back into focus.
