Yesterday (December 11) in the afternoon, the opening ceremony of the IV International Youth Experience Camp on Ice and Snow and the International Dialogue on Voluntary Service “Belt and Road” took place. In the strong atmosphere of the Winter Olympics, nearly a hundred young internationals from 40 countries expressed their desire to become volunteers for the Beijing Winter Olympics.
At the opening ceremony, Ren Wei, Director of the Recruitment Management Office of the Volunteer Department of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, presented the volunteer recruitment for the Beijing Winter Olympics and invited the campers. He revealed that the recruitment of volunteers for the Beijing Winter Olympics will be the highest number of applicants in the history of the Winter Olympics, and the number of volunteers has reached 980,000. Ren Wei said that the Beijing Winter Olympics will select the world’s best youth representatives to participate in the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
At the event site, campers of different colors expressed their expectations for the Beijing Winter Olympics and hope to become volunteers for the Winter Olympics. “Everyone has paid more attention to health in the past year, and the Olympics are a symbol of health.” Li Xia, a Ukrainian student at China Communication University, has volunteer experience in the protection and healing of cultural relics and is a senior volunteer. She said in fluent Mandarin that she would be very pleasantly surprised if she could become a volunteer for the Beijing Winter Olympics. Zhang Yisheng, a Malian student at Beijing University of International Studies, is also full of expectations of becoming a volunteer for the Winter Olympics. “Volunteering for the Winter Olympics can enrich personal experience and exercise personal capacity. From this perspective, volunteers are both devotees and beneficiaries.”
The International Youth Experience Camp on Ice and Snow was held for the first time in 2017, and this year is the fourth. The experience camp aims to improve mutual understanding among young people around the world, build a bridge of friendship between Chinese and foreign youth, so that international youth can experience the fun of ice and snow sports in a way comprehensive and feel the international atmosphere of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics in advance.
