Taiwanese manga master Cai Zhizhong became a monk at the Shaolin Temple. Cai Zhizhong created Dragon Cartoon Company in 1981, where he filmed cartoon films such as “Colorful Cartoon Old Master” and “Oolong Yuan”. “Old Master” won the Golden Horse Award for Best Animated Film. In 1983, he began publishing four-frame comics in various newspapers and has long been serialized in newspapers in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Japan. In 1985, he was selected as one of the top ten outstanding young men in Taiwan.
Over the years, Cai Zhizhong has devoted himself to studying ancient Chinese and Buddhist books, and has created more than 100 classic comics such as “Zhuang Zi Shuo”, “Lao Zi Shuo” and “Lie Zi Shuo”, which have been published in more than 30 countries and regions in multiple languages. He published and sold more than 50 million copies.

Today, the “Cai Zhizhong Comic Tablet” still stands in the Shaolin Temple and has become one of the inscriptions that tourists rush to visit. It is worth noting that Cai Zhizhong was ordained a monk at the Shaolin Temple, received the “novice monk ordination” and has since become a “novice monk” instead of “bhikkhu.” A person from the Shaolin Temple explained that a man under the age of 20 became a monk, commonly known as a “little monk.” If a person wants to become a “novice monk”, he needs to receive ten precepts. Every child who becomes a monk is a “novice monk.” If monks are over 70 years old, they are not allowed to receive “full ordination”, they can only receive “novice ordination” and become “novice monks”, but they cannot officially become “monks”.
