Foreign Ministry: Australia should do more to enhance mutual trust between the two countries and promote pragmatic cooperation-Xinhuanet
Responding to a question about Sino-Australian relations on the 17th, Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said that the current difficulties in Sino-Australian relations are China’s unwillingness to see, and the responsibility for this situation lies entirely with China. The Australian side should confront the core of the frustration of bilateral relations, treat China and China’s development objectively and rationally, address the relations between the two countries on the basis of the principles of mutual respect and equal treatment, and do more to improve mutual trust between the two countries and promote practical cooperation.
“Looking back at China-Australia relations in recent years, some people in Australia clung to the Cold War mentality and ideological biases, and viewed China’s development as a threat, and subsequently adopted a series of words and wrong actions related to China. This has led to the sharpening of China-Australia relations. The root cause of the decline and getting into a difficult situation, “he said.
Zhao Lijian gave an example: First, Australia has blatantly violated the basic norms of international relations and has repeatedly taken the wrong word and deed on issues involving China’s core interests such as Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Taiwan. These practices seriously interfered in China’s internal affairs and seriously hurt the feelings of the Chinese people. Second, some people in Australia, without any evidence, defamed and accused China of “interference and infiltration” in Australia and imposed unjustified restrictions on the politicization and stigmatization of normal trade and cooperation between China and Australia. Third, Australia has engaged in political manipulation on the epidemic issue and has promoted so-called “independent international deliberation”, which seriously interferes with international cooperation in the prevention and control of the epidemic.
“We have always believed that it is completely normal for China and Australia to have different historical traditions, social systems and stages of development. It is completely normal for the two parties to have contradictions and differences. My own thoughts and will prevail over others, “he said. (Warm reporter, Zheng Mingda)
