Volkert van der Graaf completely free next month; the Pim Fortuyn family knows nothing and is concerned

The trial of Pim Fortuyn’s killer is ending. For family members it is still unpleasant that Volkert van der Graaf can go anywhere he wants without supervision next month. Joost Eerdmans, who has contact with the Fortuyn family on behalf of the Civic Committee Against Injustice, believes that it is incomprehensible. “The Public Ministry did not even inform the family about the end of the trial period,” says the well-known Liveable Rotterdam politician in From Telegraaf.

Van der Graaf currently has a number of limitations. In addition to the written obligation to report, you are not allowed to speak to the media and there is a prohibition on contact with surviving family members. This will come to an end in May.

Simon Fortuyn, brother of the politician who was shot on May 6, 2002, finds it inconceivable that Van der Graaf would disappear from the radar. “A fox loses its hair, but not its jokes,” he said in a written statement to De Telegraaf. “This man is ‘mortal’ and must be watched. In the last 18 years, this ‘jellyfish’ has run with everything and everyone and with the Public Prosecution Service first.”
