China has made anal COVID-19 swab mandatory for all foreign travelers coming into the country, a report said on Wednesday.
The Times UK report states that the government claims that such tests provide greater accuracy than other screening methods for the virus.
As part of the new travel requirement, there will be test centers at Beijing and Shanghai airports, the outlet said.
Rectal swabs are better because the traces of the virus last longer in fecal samples than in the nose or throat, state media reported, Litong Ngzeng said.
China has taken this step after Japan asked it to stop conducting examinations on its citizens when entering the country because the Swabs are mentally torturing.
“Some Japanese informed our embassy in China that they were receiving anal swab tests, which caused great mental anguish,” Japan’s chief cabinet secretary Katsunobu Kato told a news conference.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin, however, defended the screening as “science-based.”
He said the tests were “in accordance with changes in the epidemic situation as well as relevant laws and regulations.”
