After the government will announce its decision to appeal to the Constitutional Court due to the reform project that would allow a second withdrawal of 10% of pension funds, the MP Pamela Jiles (PH), promoter of the initiative, made a call to the government to seek approaches to prevent the situation from becoming more tense.

In this way, the parliamentarian asked the “misgovernment of Piñera to lay down its attitude, to let this 10% be approved before Christmas, people need it urgently ”.

But he also proposed that if the government “allows this 10% to be approved and does not repress my people, who are obviously going to rise up against this provocation, in exchange for that, I propose to the government that there be no more withdrawals after this“.

The president of the Senate Constitution commission, Alfonso de Urresti, also criticized the Executive’s decision, stating that “a government that is on the ground, a government that has lost each and every one of the votes, resorts to this mechanism to try to save a project that clearly does not have the majority (… ) I think this is setting the meadow on fire. I understand the absolute discomfort of the citizenship and I hope that they will make an indolent and irresponsible government feel“, He sentenced.

Finally, the Deputy Jiles’ bill will be voted on in the Senate Chamber this Wednesday November 25.

Government project

On the other hand, and in parallel to this initiative, the Executive took its project to withdraw pension funds to Congress. This was discussed this Monday in the Senate committee made up of the Finance and Labor committee, and tomorrow will be its vote in general and in particular.

Starting at 8:30 this Tuesday, the commission will generally vote on the government’s initiative, and then in the afternoon it will separately review the controversial indications it has.

These, for example, pose the mandatory reintegration of money withdrawn from the AFPs, also limits the amount to be charged to a $ 2,800,000 maximum. It also raises the collection of taxes on high incomes and a payment term of the money in 60 business days and in two installments.

In the review of this Monday within the commission, the ministers of Finance and Labor also participated, who intervened to deliver arguments in favor of the Executive’s initiative.

For his part, Minister Briones stressed that this project seeks to take care of this need “by legislative means”, and that it considers an “obligation of restitution that seeks to avoid damage to pensions”. “As Executive we have a duty to plant it as such because we know that there is pension damage behind it,” he added.

While the Minister Zaldívar defended the proposed payment terms, ensuring that “it obeys the suggestion of the Central Bank that states that a term equivalent to or less than that applied to the first withdrawal is not convenient.”
