Empresas Gasco appoints former Metrogas executive as new CEO

The company appointed Víctor Turpaud, who will take over from June 1 to replace Julio Bertrand, who is going to CAP.

A day of movements was lived today at Empresas Gasco. In the framework of an extraordinary board meeting, the company appointed Víctor Turpaud Fernández as the new general manager, who worked in the same position at Metrogas and was linked to the company for almost 20 years. Turpaud is currently general manager of Inmobiliaria Aconcagua. The executive will join June 1.

Turpaud will take over from Julio Bertrand who submitted his resignation on April 8, for personal reasons, which will become effective on April 30. Only six days ago, CAP announced that the executive would transit from the energy path to the mining and steel world starting on May 4 when he joined the group as new general manager.

At the appointment, too Matías Pérez Cruz was ratified as chairman of the board and Andrés Pérez Cruz as vice president of Empresas Gasco.

Earlier, at the company’s ordinary shareholders’ meeting, a new board of directors was elected for the next three years with the departure of Ricardo Cruzat and Gerardo Illanes. In his replacement former minister Rodrigo Álvarez Zenteno and economist Michelle Labbé Cid joined.

Thus, together with Álvarez and Cid, the new board was made up of Francisco Gazmuri Schleyer, José Ignacio Laso Bambach, Vicente Monge Alcalde, Andrés Pérez Cruz, Matías Pérez Cruz, Carmen Gloria Pucci Labatut and Carlos Rocca Righton.

“Energy companies are called to make every effort”

There were not only new signings. Empresas Gasco announced an investment of $ 71 billion (about US $ 82.7 million) for this year. Of this figure, 64% will go to continue developing the gas energy solutions segment in Chile, 29% to supply and 6% to the development of energy solutions for the international business.

At the meeting, the president of Empresas Gasco, Matías Pérez Cruz, together with delivering the results and main milestones of each of the company’s subsidiaries, addressed the contingency marked by the global health crisis.

“Given the unprecedented and uncertain situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, not only in Chile, but in practically the entire world, energy companies are called to make all human and material efforts so that the energy to hospitals, homes, industries and commerce, taking all security measures and protocols for our workers, “he said.

Regarding their initiatives, the meeting reported that Empresas Gasco and Energía Latina, through the Sociedad Innovación Energía (Inersa), concluded the construction of the Teno Power Plant (44.7MW), beginning its commercial operation and connection to the interconnected system national in February of this year. Along these lines, Pérez Cruz indicated that the company plans to develop other similar projects in other parts of the country.

In the case of Terminal Gas Caldera, under development for the import and storage of liquefied gas in the Atacama Region, it was detailed that its stage of obtaining key construction permits was completed. In July 2019, the work obtained the favorable Environmental Qualification Resolution (RCA) and recently the unanimous approval of the maritime concession in the Regional Commission for the Use of the Coastal Edge of Atacama. Only two days ago, as indicated, said company was notified by the Captaincy of Puerto de Caldera of the D.S. of the Ministry of Defense that grants the Maritime Concession to develop said terminal.

Meanwhile, regarding the decision of the Third Chamber of the Supreme Court in November last year to order shareholders to divest their current interests in Gasmar within the 18-month period, the executive commented that they will comply and abide by the decision in due time and form. of the court.

In parallel, from SalfaCorp they indicated that Turpaud will remain as general manager of Aconcagua Real Estate until April 30. In his place, Matías Stamm Moreno, an executive with more than 15 years of outstanding experience at SalfaCorp, where he has held different roles, in the Engineering and Construction, Building, and International areas of the company, will assume the position.

Stamm is a civil engineer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and an MBA from the Universidad de Los Andes.
