Did I come out as a table vowel? It is the question that many will begin to ask with the imminent arrival of the constitutional plebiscite on October 25., due to which the Electoral Service (Servel) called people to check in time if they were nominated and they can excuse themselves if they are within the group of people who can do it.
In this regard, the president of the Board of Directors of the organization, Patricio Santamaría, noted that “On October 3, the list with the members who must perform will be published in the regional newspaper and on the Servel page. at the polling stations on October 25, people will have three business days; October 5, 6 and 7 to present your excuses before the electoral board ”.
How to excuse yourself?
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many of those who are nominated will not be able to fulfill their assigned work, which is why the reasons for exemption increased.
Santamaría explained that to excuse yourself, you must meet any of these requirements; “Being outside the country, being in a town more than 300 kilometers from the polling place, having to perform electoral functions, working in hospitals or clinics, being pregnant or within 24 weeks after delivery, being physically or mentally disabled to perform the respective duties, or to be 60 years of age or older, This last requirement was taken to protect the population of older adults at risk, before it was 70 years or more, now it has been lowered to 60 years or more“.
Meanwhile, the list of replacements for the members who manage to exempt themselves from the work at the voting tables, will be released on October 10, the day when the newspapers or the Servel website must be checked again.
Although the role of the table members is of utmost importance in all electoral processes, this time they will be even more so, since They will have to take all the necessary safeguards to avoid contagions when people arrive at the polls. To do this, they will have specific security elements and will have to constantly sanitize the secret cameras, among other specific activities due to the coronavirus pandemic.
