Classic buzzing: Porsche launches new infotainment systems compatible with old models

Life has become increasingly digitized and is not an exclusive phenomenon of 2020, just when teleworking has become a mandatory trend. For a few years now, it has been a mystery to anyone that it has been very useful -and even safe- to have a car with a Bluetooth connection through which we can make a call to put the music to our liking, making the trip much more pleasant. Or is there still someone who gets into your car with a case with CDs or cassettes? Now Porsche has again thought about its customers who drive a classic and who want to get into comfort, without losing the stamp of originality.

Everything has been done by the Porsche Classic Communication Management division, focused on those “oldest”. This department offers two new model variants that can replace the original single or double din radios. Both have high-resolution touchscreens, navigation, and are compatible with Apple CarPlay, meaning Siri can also be the travel companion. “They fit perfectly in the hole of a din that was the standard in our sports for many decades,” says the statement from the Stuttgart firm. In 2018, Jaguar had offered similar systems for its own classics.

One din radio has a 3.5 ″ screen, two knobs and six buttons. Perhaps most importantly for a Porsche customer, the radio retains the dash lines of old sports cars. The second alternative is the double din radio that replaces those carried by the 996 (1997) generation of the 911 and the 986 series of the Boxster and the Cayman. This radio has a 7 ″ screen.

Both can be ordered from the Porsche Classic Online Catalog and are priced at € 1,439 and € 1,606 for the small or large radio, respectively.
