It’s unclear if the Chick-fil-A kickoff event might be able to line up one or more replacement matchups that don’t involve out-of-state ACC teams, but it seems unlikely at the moment with the SEC weigh-in schedule format and Big 12. changes
ACC’s decision Wednesday came amid continuing questions about whether the coronavirus pandemic will allow a season of college football to be played. ACC said its new schedule format will be used “if the public health guide allows it.”
The start of Chick-fil-A, operated by Peach Bowl Inc., started in 2008 and has hosted at least one game each year since then, making it the oldest neutral season-opening event at the university. The event has hosted two games in each of the three years, but had never done more than that in a year to line up three games for 2020.
Prior to ACC’s decision, Chick-fil-A Kickoff had been working on contingency plans for games with a greatly reduced seating capacity to allow for social distancing in the stands.
