Thomas and James Throttle house The YouTube channel is no stranger to speed and power. The latest installment of the show is no exception, with two drag races between the mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette C8 and the Shelby F-150 Super Snake; one race from a permanent start, and the other from a continuous start.
As Thomas says at the beginning, this drag race doesn’t make any sense. A Corvette in front of an F-150 truck? That said, the Shelby-tuned F-150 has a number of tricks up its sleeve. The F-150’s most significant advantage comes under the hood, with a 5.0-liter V8 powered by 770 horsepower (574 kilowatts) aided by a 2.9-liter Whipple supercharger that makes some engines look microscopic by comparison. With the help of the massive blower and other minor modifications to the engine, the Super Snake is capable of going up to 60 mph (96 km / h) in just over three seconds.
Meanwhile, the Corvette C8 is no stranger to speed. As the first mid-engine Corvette, the new configuration gives it an edge in endurance racing. According to Throttle houseThe weight of the engine on the rear wheels will give the C8 superior off-line traction. Along with the launch control system seen in ‘Vette, the Super Snake will need something special to gain a head start.
As expected, the Super Snake was not victorious in any of the races. While the collection scores some powerful numbers, they just weren’t enough. However, if we were given a day on the track with the Super Snake or the C8, we would have a difficult decision on our hands. While the Corvette is the fastest car, the F-150 is a fun corner pro with its added power. The Super Snake looks like home drifting through a corner at block stops.
