Michigan basketball reached Chet Holmgren’s top seven college destinations. Could it be Wolverine’s next superstar?
Chet Holmgren doesn’t have to go through the prospect leaderboards to boost his confidence, he does it on the court challenging the best basketball players in the country, not just his high school peers. Chet once made Steph Curry look silly. Chet Holmgren, a sophomore in high school, dealt crazy, Steph Curry checked in, crossed paths with Steph Curry and took him by surprise, ending up in the basket with a slam dunk. That same Chet Holmgren dropped his top seven schools and a Michigan basketball jersey made its way onto the shelf.

Who Is Chet Holmgren?
According to 247 sports, Chet is the second in the nation behind Jonathan Kuminga, the number one center and the best player in MN. Holmgren could be listed as a center, but even as a seven-footer footer, Chet sees himself in the Kevin Durant category of hoop stars. He is a player with no position who can carry the ball across the court, create his own shot on all three levels and defend the ring as his life depended on it.
Holmgren has been referred to as a unicorn. Which perfectly encapsulates what Chet brings to the field. An unmatched uniqueness. Take a look at his sports evaluation 247:
Extremely unique player who is unlike almost any American prospect in recent years. Good size, long arms and more athletics but very narrow frame. Extremely physically immature and can take time to gain strength due to narrow shoulders / base. Despite the lack of strength, a very tough boy with an impressive mental makeup. It has reach to the perimeter with a bridge, good body control and high sensation. Outstanding rim protector and rebounder. Level 10 engine. The Wolverines are battling Minnesota, Gonzaga, Ohio State, Georgetown, Memphis, and UNC for Holmgren’s services.
Chet will also receive offers to play in NBA G League as he nears graduation. Choosing between half a million dollars or a free education can be a challenge for some 18-year-olds and there is a clear choice for others. Chet appears to be leaning toward the college route, although he is still early in his recruitment.
Another possibility is the NBA. While there is a rule of one and ready in effect this season, there is talk of reversing that, which would create a path for Holmgren to turn pro immediately without the passage of the G-League.
At the end of the day, superstar Chet Holmgren narrowed his best schools down to seven and Michigan basketball is still on the run.
