Cher learned that the USPS does not allow volunteers – but they are hired

The Oscar-winning actress and singer, who has a politically active presence on social media, showed interest on Wednesday in doing some service for the Postal Service in a series of tweets.

Cher first posed a question to her 3.8 million followers on Twitter, “Could I volunteer at my post office !?”

An hour later, and apparently without the advice she sought from the Twitter verse, Cher wrote that she called the two post offices in Malibu, California, to ask.

“OK, 2 post offices mentioned in Malibu. They were polite. I said” Hi this is Cher, and I would like to know if you have ever taken volunteers? Lady Said She did not know & gave me # of supervisor. I called and said Hi this is Cher Do U accept volunteers. “NO, Fingerprints and background checks required” 😥, “Cher wrote.

When contacted by CNN about Cher’s tweets, a USPS spokesman confirmed that the agency does not accept volunteers.

“But there are many opportunities for employment at the Postal Service, including seasonal rentals,” the spokesman added, along with a link to current openings.
Cher’s interest in mail delivery comes as Democratic attorneys – general across the country launch a multi-pole legal effort to reverse the recent changes – affecting the hours of retail and mail processing – that affect mail delivery across the country disturbed.
Embattled Postmaster General Louis DeJoy reversed the course on Tuesday, saying all changes made to the Postal Service would be lifted until after the November 3 election.

The controversy comes because the Postal Service probably has to deal with a large number of post-in-ballot papers of voters worried about potentially contracting the coronavirus at polling stations.
