Chelsea 2-0 Wolves, Premier League: post-match reaction; ratings

When Chelsea played Wolves the first time this season, a boring 30-minute first minute was followed by a 7-goal bang, with Chelsea winning 5-2.

This time, the first boring 40 minutes were followed by a 2-goal bang before the break – Mason Mount with a perfect free kick after Alonso won a questionable foul; so Giroud does not give up after an initial save on a short counter.

Chelsea emerged much more in control in the second half, which was precisely what was needed, especially with the Wolves throwing many fresh legs, including Adama Traoré. But aside from a couple of strong runs from him, Chelsea dealt with the opposition very well all afternoon.

Both sides marked the changes as the half progressed, and all fluency withdrew from the game, which suited us well.

Work done. Champions League insured. Never in doubt.

Carefree.

  • Just a voluntary switch from the middle of the week, with Caballero replacing Kepa in goal, as many expected, wanted, and expected. Willian the other change, forced through injury, with Pulisic getting the go-ahead.
  • Peer-to-peer subgroups, with both teams staying 3-4-3 at all times.
  • Seventh Premier League goal for Mount
  • Giroud now with 10 goals for the season in all competitions.
  • Chelsea finishes fourth when Manchester United beat Leicester City to stay third. Leicester finishes fifth. The wolves fall to seventh place, with the Spurs earning a point against Crystal Palace and finishing sixth.
  • Next up: FA CUP FINAL next weekend, against Arsenal
