In the old days of May, we told you that Google was going to add filters to the results of the Google Play Store application. This would allow you to reduce the number of results that appear in your search request. For example, you can adjust your query to find a particular type of application with at least a certain number of stars. Or you stick with those who received an “Editor’s Choice” badge. Options appear below the search bar in a similar way to keyword suggestions.
Originally, the feature was implemented only in certain markets. Today, AndroidPolice says that Google is now rolling out Google Play Store search filters to more regions and markets. Unfortunately, it appears to be a server-side update, which means you have no control over when it will appear on your Android phone. The filters have been seen in version 21.0.17 of the Play Store.
Google Play Store search filters may be on your Android device
Fortunately, Play Store search filters appear in our Pixel 2 XL with Android R beta version 2.5. The filter options on the phone allow us to select applications with a rating of 4.0 or higher, applications with a rating of 4.5 or higher, those that were selected as Editor’s Choice, Premium applications, new applications and applications available on Google Play Pass. AndroidPolice notes that if you search for an app with a brand name such as Apple Music, Netflix and Spotify, you won’t see any filters as you will see the results with a normal search for the name. But if you add the word “utility” after the name, the filters return.
Applications with brand names do not display the filter unless global utility is added
Whether filters save you the time and effort of running a large list of applications depends on what you’re looking for. Still, offering the filters should be seen as a step forward for Google and Android.
