Chad Campbell becomes the sixth player on the PGA Tour to test positive for COVID-19

Chad Campbell became the sixth player on the PGA Tour to test positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Campbell was tested in the pre-tournament screening prior to the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit, according to the PGA Tour.

“While the positive test result is puzzling, I am incredibly grateful to be asymptomatic and to feel physically well, and my thoughts are with anyone dealing with COVID, directly or indirectly,” Campbell said in a statement. “I support the TOUR protocol during this time and will be quarantined to protect others until I am well. I hope to compete again once it is considered safe for me to return.”

Campbell was slated to be the tournament’s first backup.

The PGA Tour said in a statement that Campbell would have his full support, which is significant since the new tour policy states that the $ 100,000 stipend available to players who test positive for COVID-19 can be withheld if it is determined that the player did not comply with established protocols.

Campbell last played in the Charles Schwab open, where he missed the cut. Their positive test comes a day after Harris English tested positive, and they both join Nick Watney, Cameron Champ, Denny McCarthy and Dylan Frittelli as players who tested positive.

Additionally, the Korn Ferry Tour announced that tour members Brandon Wu, Taylor Montgomery, and Jonathan Hodge withdrew from the TPC Colorado Championship at Heron Lakes prior to the first round. The Korn Ferry Tour says a total of 247 players have been tested since the return from the tour and Wu, Montgomery and Hodge are the only three who tested positive.
