CLEVELAND, Ohio – On Tuesday night, right-hander Zach Placek saw Jose Ramirez walk-home f Homer in the 10th inning against the White Sox and felt like he was dreaming.
He spent only 45 minutes in the float tank in the progressive field training room to recover from his last start. He was there for 45 minutes, listening to the sound of the waves floating on the bed of salt water and slowly slipping to the shore.
“I wasn’t asleep, my eyes were open,” Plassek said. “But I felt like I was dreaming. I had happy dreams. “
When he got out of the tank and returned to the excavation to see what had happened, Placek felt he was still dizzy, still dreaming.
Well, the dream continued on Thursday night for Placec, Ramirez and the Indians. Ramirez scored two home runs in the seventh innings of four overs, while the Indians completed a four-game cleanup by beating the White Sox 5–4.
The win drew the Indians to the second-ranked White Sox in AL Central. If the Indians pass (or tie) Chicago in the final three games of the season, they have a chance to host three games in the wild-card series on Tuesday.
India have won five of the last eight straight and seven straight after losing eight games. The White Sox have lost the season-high five straight.
As Chicago took a 4-1 lead, Plesek allowed only three runs in the seventh. Center fielder Delino Dashilds pin-bowled from the left center and center field walls in the White Sox.
Yoan Moncada, with 1-1, opened the seventh with a score, 1-1, with a triple outside the wall in the left center. He scored first on a hard grounder that Carlos Santana knocked him out. After Jose Abreu left, Alloy Jimenez doubled and went deep into the center. The ball bounced off the heel of Dishilds’ glove as it slid into the wall. He quickly caught Brain in third place.
Plessek dismissed Edwin Ankarnasian, but Nomar Mazara scored two runs to the left of Infield for a 4-1 lead. Cam Hill was relieved and Yolmar Sanchez released the shields against the left center field wall for the final match.
The dream, however, was just gaining momentum.
The Indian team opened the seventh with Jimmy Cordoro’s three straight hit singles after Dallas Keushel scored one run in four of the six innings. Josh Nyler, Tyler Naquin and Mike Freeman had singles to load the bases, but the DeShields moved Nyler to third by placing him on a plate on the ground.
Corduro retired Francisco Linder on the fly ball, went left to make way for Carlos Roden (0-2), who became active early in the day. Cesar Hernandez led him to -3–3, giving him a run at second rate from second-leaping Sanchez. Ramirez put the Indian ahead with a double car from the wall in the middle of the left.
The win went to Cam Hill (2-0), while Brad Hand saved several chances in his 15th match in ninth place. Handy retired the White Sox with two strikeouts.
The place opened with seven straight stones before Sanchez took a 1-0 lead before being dismissed in the third. He was Sanchez’s first homer of the season. He would not be out of work until the White Sox signed him as a free agent on August 26.
The Indians immediately resisted in their third half. Roberto Perez doubled inside the first base with an outside of the Cuschel. Linder continued the innings with a two-run before Hernandez pulled the right field line down the chalk with a double. Perez scored easily and Lindor was just behind, returning to third as the ball doubled the ground-rule.
Linder finished third as Keuchel retired Ramirez on short ground. Ramirez doubled with the first two, but the White Sox hit him to the third inning on an attempt to steal a third inning from the inning.
Plessak allowed four runs in 6 2/3 innings. He had not allowed runs in 14 innings in the previous two starts against the White Sox this year.
