CDC coronavirus quarantine time will be reduced from 14 to 7-10 days


The new guidelines would recommend that exposure to close contacts of people infected with coronavirus be kept to a minimum of 10 days, which is currently below the suggested 1 day. If individuals receive a negative test, or after 10 days without testing, the person may terminate their quarantine after 7 days.

The CDC revised the definition of ga contact contact with a Covid-19 patient in late October to include multiple, brief contact. The current definition includes exposure to an infected person up to a total of 15 minutes of six feet or so. Previously, the CDC defined close contact within 15 minutes of continuous contact with an infected person.

Redfield announced the next quarantine guidelines during a meeting of the coronavirus task force on Tuesday, describing the change as a data-based decision, which has been under review for weeks, officials said.

An official said Pence has been pressuring the CDC for months to review the guidelines.

The CDC did not immediately return CNN’s request for comment.

Health experts stressed the importance of communication and implementation of mitigation measures to reduce the alarming number of coronavirus cases across the country, the official said. There has been no discussion of President Donald Trump’s involvement in a public message surrounding the mitigation measures.

Mitigation efforts include the use of masks, social distance, avoiding crowds, and frequent hand washing.
