Cases of the American Coronavirus are running in these 15 states


Coronavirus cases in the U.S. have climbed 5.5 million in the past, according to the latest report Friday from Johns Hopkins University.

Below, we look at the states that have reported an increase in average daily case counts over a 14-day period from August 6 to August 19th.

Daily case counts below reflect a three-day moving average of daily new cases reported from August 6 to 19.

Hawaii

  • Day 1 (August 6): 174.67
  • Day 14 (August 19): 209.67
  • Highest daily count in 14 days: 289 on 14 August
  • Lowest daily count in 14 days: 136.67 on 10 August

Average daily new cases in Hawaii have been on an upward trend over the last 14 days and have increased sharply since late July, after remaining mostly flat and relatively low during most of the outbreak from late March to most of July.

  • Day 14 (August 19): 1,955.67
  • Highest daily case count in 14-day period: 2,082 on August 7th
  • Lowest daily count in 14-day period: 1,416.67 on August 10th

Average daily new cases in Illinois have mostly increased in the last two-week period, with some major dips showing from August 7 to 10 and August 14 to 17. The average daily business attack has declined most since reaching a high of 2,977 on May 13, before growing most from mid-June to August.

Missouri

  • Day 1 (August 6): 1,138.33
  • Day 14 (August 19): 1,042.67
  • Highest daily count in 14 days: 1,451 on 13 August
  • Lowest daily count in 14 days: 802.33 on 7 August

The average daily case count in Missouri was statistically reported on an upward trend in the recent 14-day period, including a large increase seen from 9 to 13 August. However, the report was reported to be much lower than the peak levels seen at the end of July, when it hit 1,883 on July 29th.

Kansas

  • Day 1 (August 6): 451.67
  • Day 14 (August 19): 431
  • Highest daily case count in 14-day period: 596 on 14 August
  • Lowest daily count in 14 days: 329.67 on 17 August

Average daily new cases have mostly increased in the recent two-week period, peaking at 596 on August 14, the highest level recorded since the outbreak began. The average daily cases of the case in the state decreased most from about the beginning of May before they increased most from the beginning of June to the end of July. It then became flat by early August.

Nebraska

  • Day 1 (August 6): 308.67
  • Day 14 (August 19): 261.67
  • Highest daily case count in 14-day period: 332.33 on 14 August
  • Lowest daily count in 14-day period: 191.67 on 16 August

The average daily business tally statistically increased in the recent period of 14 days. But the figure is mostly flatter for the end of July, after increasing a slightly sharper slope from early July. Average daily new cases were reported to be much lower than the peak levels seen in April, when 497 average daily new cases were recorded on 30 April.

Iowa

  • Day 1 (August 6): 603
  • Day 14 (August 19): 568
  • Highest daily count in 14 days: 697.33 on 14 August
  • Lowest daily count in 14 days: 328.67

Average daily new cases in Iowa were reported to be on an upward trend in the recent 14-day window, including a large increase seen from 10 to 14 August as from 18 to 19 August.

The average daily case count has mostly increased from mid-June to early July before falling most to the end of July. It then went a bit flat in early August.

Kentucky

  • Day 1 (August 6): 533
  • Day 14 (August 19): 645
  • Highest daily case count in 14-day period: 835 on 13 August
  • Lowest daily case count in 14-day period: 405 on August 10th

The average daily business attack in Kentucky was reported to be on an upward trend in the recent two-week period, reaching 835 on August 13, the highest level since the outbreak began.

Average daily new cases were reported to have peaked from around July 18 to early August. The average grew on sharper trend from early to late July.

North Dakota

  • Day 1 (August 6): 131.33
  • Day 14 (August 19): 169
  • Highest daily count in 14 days: 169 on 19 August
  • Lowest daily count in 14 days: 108.33 on 16 August

The average daily business attack in North Dakota has mostly increased in the past two-week period, and jumped on a sharp slope from August to 16 to 19.

After a brief dip in late May, average daily new cases have mostly increased through July and August.

South Dakota

  • Day 1 (August 6): 97.33
  • Day 14 (August 19): 110.33
  • Highest daily case count in period of 14 days: 125.67
  • Lowest daily case count in period of 14 days: 70 on 11 August

Average daily new cases in South Dakota have been an upward trend over the last 14 days, the average daily numbers did not report peak levels back in May, when 204 average daily new infections were recorded.

Average daily new cases usually range from late May to mid-July, before increasing mostly through early August.

Rhode Island

  • Day 1 (August 6): 116
  • Day 14 (August 19): 99.67
  • Highest daily case count in 14-day period: 153.33 on 18 August
  • Lowest daily count in 14 days: 31.67 on 15 August

Average daily new cases in Rhode Island were reported a statistical increase in the recent 14-day period. However, the average daily business attack was mostly flat from June to August, hovering at levels much lower than those recorded in April 429 average daily new cases were reported on April 24th.

Connecticut

  • Day 1 (August 6): 70
  • Day 14 (August 19): 55
  • Highest daily case count in a period of 14 days: 13 to 18 August
  • Lowest daily count in 14 days period: 38.33 on 15 August

The average daily case count in Connecticut was statistically reported on an upward trend in the last window of two weeks. However, it mostly declined from April 21, when it reached a high of 1,502, before falling for the most part from late June to late July. The figure then increased briefly and decreased in early August.

Alaska

  • Day 1 (August 6): 47.33
  • Day 14 (August 19): 70.33
  • Highest daily count in 14 days: 98.67 on 15 August
  • Lowest daily count in 14 days: 47.33 on 6 August

Average daily business counts in Alaska have been on an upward trend over the last two weeks, increasing most of around June.

However, the daily new cases peaked at lower levels than they did from late July to August 1, when the average daily case reached its highest level at 134.

Wyoming

  • Day 1 (August 6): 38.67
  • Day 14 (August 19): 42
  • Highest daily count in 14 days: 56 on 15 August
  • Lowest daily count in 14-day period: 12 to 11 August

Average daily new cases in Wyoming have mostly increased over the last 14-day period.

A large increase was recorded from 11 to 15 August, reaching peak levels reported back in late July, when the average daily cases of the case also hit 56 July. The figure mostly flattens from late April and May before growing most from June to August.

Maine

  • Day 1 (August 6): 13 p.m.
  • Day 14 (August 19): 6:67 p.m.
  • Highest daily case count in a period of 14 days: 27 to 16 August
  • Lowest daily count in 14 days: 8 to 10 August

Average daily new cases in Maine were reported to be on an upward trend in the last window of 14 days, including a large rise seen from 10 to 16 August.

However, the average daily rate of daily cases has been on a slightly declining trend from 21 May, when 69 average daily new cases were recorded, through early August.

Vermont

  • Day 1 (August 6): 5.67
  • Day 14 (August 19): 3.33
  • Highest daily count in 14 days: 10.33 on 14 and 15 August
  • Lowest daily count in 14 days: 3.33 on 6 August

Average daily case counts in Vermont have mostly been on an upward trend in the last 14-day period, with average daily new cases from August 15 to 19.

The average daily business numbers remained mostly May through May before increasing sharply from late May to early June. It fell sharply by mid-June before mostly flattening out again by early August.

More than 22.7 million people worldwide have been infected since the virus was first reported in Wuhan, China. More than 14.5 million are thought to have recovered from infection, while about 794,200 have died, according to the latest report Friday by JHU.
