New Delhi (AP) – Amid a resurgence of infections in the capital, India’s coronavirus outbreak on Thursday led to an increase in more than 500,000 cases.
The health ministry also recorded another 704 casualties across the country in the last 24 hours, bringing India’s total death toll to 124,315.
In the last 24 hours, 6,842 new cases have been reported in New Delhi. It has more than 37,000 active cases.
The ministry has blamed the boom in New Delhi for the festive season and warned that the situation could be exacerbated by the rush of markets for festive shopping.
With the rapidly rising air quality, New Delhi also seems to be heading towards a cold wave. Health experts are concerned that low temperatures and high pollution will exacerbate the virus.
With .3..3 million confirmed cases of coronavirus, India is the second worst affected country behind the United States.
