Carson Ventez responds to Eagles, Packers loss in Week 13 for Jacken Hurt

The Philadelphia Eagles blamed the Green Bay Packers for their franchise quarterbacks for the Patriots season in Sunday’s loss as the weak game finally got the better of Carson Wentz. The Eagles bent on the Wentz in the third quarter before losing for 79 yards in the second quarter.

Wentz has been the Eagles’ starting quarterback for five years, and although he has lost time due to injury, the franchise has made it for the first time since drafting him. Wentz is one of the worst quarterbacks in football this season, so this benching looked inevitable – especially when the Eagles made the quarterbacks in the second round of this year’s draft. Despite being thick and thin, Wentz will not doubt himself as he faces the biggest adversity of his career – even if his play on the field and body language would have shown otherwise.

“I never like to think like that,” Ventez said of his benching. “Obviously, the chatter is over, I’ve had a lot of questions over the last few weeks. But I don’t let my mind get there in the end. I’m a competitor and when I’m out in that field, even if it’s Be it practice or walkthrough or sport, I will leave all this on the field and do everything I can. And today I did it.

“I don’t think I’ve played my best but I did everything I could and at the end of the day I came out of the game and that’s not my call.”

Sunday’s defeat to the Packers was one of the worst games of Wentz’s career. His 40% finish rate was the fifth-lowest score of his career and the worst in Yard 10 at 5.27 attempts. Of Wentz’s career numbers, three of the 10 lowest yards of his effort in an individual game came in 2020, while his lowest passing rating performances also came this season.

Wentz completed his 57.4% pass at 2,620 yards with 15 interceptions (72.8 rating) from 166 touchdowns. Of the qualified quarterbacks, Wentz ranks second to last in percentage of completion, fourth-to-last in interception percentage, third to last in yards per effort, and third to last in quarterback ratings. He has been dropped 50 times from league-high this season and his wide receiver group is in the NFL’s top five in receiving yards, so the Eagles’ struggles are not on all Wentz.

Wentz did not help his cause due to poor decision making and ambiguity towards football. Poor throwing and body language have also led to his downfall. The Eagles had no choice but to bench him.

“At the end of the day, it’s out of my control,” Wentz said. “It’s not for me (to make a decision). I know what I’m capable of. I know I can play better. I’ve never doubted myself that I’ve lost faith in my abilities. It’s all out of my control. “
