Carrie Ann Inaba was as shocked by the layoffs of Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrew’s “Dancing With the Stars” as the fans.
“I feel like it was such sudden news,” the 52-year-old judge said during an upcoming episode of “The Talk” (via JustJared). “My heart breaks for Tom and Erin.”
The “DWTS” judge also revealed that she “cried when [she] I heard the news and I think a lot of our fans did it. “
Tyra Banks is set to take over as host of season 29 of the hit dance competition show, which Bergeron joked was a quick replacement.
“I guess I won’t get my monogrammed towels back,” he joked on Twitter.
Inaba also addressed Banks’ hiring, saying she was not the show’s first black presenter; Lisa Canning was the host during the first season.
“Also, I don’t think this is how we should label it. She is our new hostess. Period. It has nothing to do with the color of her skin, ”said Inaba.
“I think it has to do with everything Tyra Banks is. All the energy you have. She is like a visionary, she is a strong and powerful woman … I think we are in good hands, “Inaba continued. “It’s different, the fans will have to get used to it, I understand, but I think we should welcome it.”
