Tiger King star Carole Baskin has called on Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion for their use of big cats in the music video for new single ‘WAP’, describing the clip as “lurid.”
In a statement written to Billboard in response to the video, the CEO of Big Cat Rescue said that while she was on top of her concerns about animal welfare while filming, she felt the clip could help “glamorize” the idea. to have them as pets.
“My guess is that most people will not even see the Photoshopped cats in the scenes because the rest is so much louder,” Baskin said. “I was happy to see that it all looks Photoshopped. It did not look like the cats were really in the rooms with the singers. In fact, most rooms are often Photoshopped via green screen. ”
Baskin added that, despite not being present in the room for the video itself, the scenes with a cheetah and a tiger would not be captured organically, explaining that “you have to pose a wildcat for a green screen to get that image and that does not happen in the wild. “
Baskin continued: ‘It can not happen in shrines like ours, where cats have a lot of space to avoid a green screen (or it would shatter if access were granted and could die by eating it).
‘That tells me they’re probably dealing with one of the big cat pimps, who earn from chaining, shocking and hungry cats to let them stand on a stick in front of a green screen in a studio. That’s never good for the cat. ”
Baskin added that the least part of the video was the potential to “glamorize” “big” cats as pets. “That makes any ignorant follower want to imitate him by doing the same. After tigers are too old to pay to play sessions by people like Joe Exotic, Bhagavan Antle, Marc McCarthy, Mario Tabraue and others, they become a liability instead of an asset.
‘Although I think most were destroyed behind closed gates at that point, some are finally given to people who want a tiger to show off. That never works out and the cats die or end up in shrines or, worse, breeding grounds.
“However, it is always abused for the cat.”
Earlier this week (August 6), Megan Thee Stallion confirmed that she was working on a movie version.
Megan had previously referred to a feature film development in her NME interview last month. In a new interview, the Houston rapper confirmed her work in progress and said she was a big horror movie fan, but did not indicate if her own work would be part of the genre.
