Carol Baskin said in a shocking letter found 30 years ago that she would have killed her first husband to avoid marriage.
The founder of Big Cat Rescue, 59, has been the subject of speculation linking her to the disappearance of her second husband, Don Lewis.
But the Tiger King star wrote a letter 30 years ago saying she would ‘eventually kill’ her first husband, Michael Murdoch.
She has now clarified that she made this comment because it was offensive and would only act in self-defense.

The discovery of the letter, seen by TMZ, is preceded by a new documentary about Jo Exotic, which will air on Investigation Discovery this weekend.
The letter details Carol’s affair with Dawn but includes a line about her first husband, Michael.
She wrote: ‘I had to get out of my marriage and eventually kill my husband to do it.’

Supporting the letter, he said: “I mean, it was just a matter of self-defense because Mike Murdoch physically abused me to scare me for my life.”
The reality star, who is competing to dance with the Stars, has previously claimed several times that Murdoch, whom she married in 1979 and shared with daughter Jamie, was abusive.
Carol and Don divorced their spouses in 1991 and married the same year after a long relationship.

Don, who made a millionaire using his real estate and car business, said his second marriage also had affair.
She said he had been to Costa Rica frequently to meet women and was planning to go there, buying a pro plane ticket in those days and leading to her disappearance.
Carol claims she was mentally ill and was showing signs of Alzheimer’s, a claim her lawyers and colleagues have denied.
In July 1997, Don, then 59, requested a restraining order against his wife, saying he had threatened to kill her and concealed his gun to protect her.
The Basque Tiger King star is a rival of Ex Exotic, which gained global fame this year on Netflix.
The request was denied and Don told Carroll several times that he wanted a divorce, but the couple continued to live together.
On August 18, 1997, Don disappeared after leaving home around 6 a.m. and has not been seen since.

It comes after Cadaver’s dogs near the Florida Lake home appeared to have smelled human remains.

Carol has been married to Howard Baskin since 2004 and has worked with him in Big Cat Rescue.
The female dog is disturbed by the odor it emits, behaves like a boat on the bottom of the sun and barks.
“There’s something in the lake, something that’s causing the dog to constantly warn west of the lake near Don Lewis’ home,” said one investigator.
Lewis’ family held a press conference in Tampa last month and announced an independent investigation into her disappearance.
That means Carroll will be interrogated under oath as part of the family investigation.
