Cardinal Tigers double-header issued amid concerns over coronavirus

DETROIT – A doubleheader between the St. The Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers are being postponed this week to allow more time for additional COVID-19 testing.

MLB opted for Thursday’s double header to go through additional tests, while Cardinals players and staff are in quarantine before the team returns to play. More details on the Cardinals’ refund of play will be announced later this week.

The Cardinals had scheduled a series against Pittsburgh to begin postponed on Monday after a weekend series against the Cubs was shocked due to three positive coronavirus tests.

St. Louis had two more players and a staff member test positive for the virus on Friday and have had a total of eight positive players, including star catcher Yadier Molina.

There are now 29 games postponed by Major League Baseball due to coronavirus concerns. The Cardinals have not played since July 30 and have scrapped 15 games.

Miami and Philadelphia had each postponed seven games earlier and have been back on the field since the disruptions.
