Cardinal Cubs game postponed to another positive coronavirus


Baseball is another coronavirus bump hit.

The St. Louis Cardinals, due to return to action Friday after an outbreak of coronavirus hit the team, this scheduled series will not play in Chicago against the Chicago Cubs this weekend, after two new players and a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

Overall, the Cardinals have had nine players and seven staff members have tested positive over the last eight days. That group includes Yadier Molina and Paul DeJong.

The Commissioner’s Office has been informed that a staff of St. Louis Cardinals and two players positively tested samples collected over the past two days. Out of an abundance of caution, and to ensure that all infected cardinal players and staff members are identified, the games between the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium on Saturday, August 8 and Sunday, August 9. Major League Baseball will continue to provide updates as they become available.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network says this new positive test came after three days of negatives. The team’s outburst spanned last weekend, with MLB pausing their season Monday.

Friday could have been the first day since July 26 that all 30 teams would have played. The Cardinals have not played since July 29th.

After these new positive tests, it does not say how long it will take before the cardinals can return.

The Cubs have reportedly traveled home to Chicago. They will play the Cleveland Indians again on Tuesday.
