The rematch will have to wait a few more hours – fifteen to be exact.
The opening round series between the Carolina Hurricanes and Boston Bruins, which was scheduled to begin Tuesday night at 8 a.m. ET in Toronto, was postponed because the first game of the Eastern Conference playoffs went too long. Tampa Bay and Columbus are playing in a fifth overtime and because the NHL was unsure when the ice would be ready, they opted for the Hurricanes and Bruins opener after Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. ET.
The Lightning and Blue Jackets, who also hit in last year’s opening round, with Columbus hitting a high-scoring team with the best record in the league, played 90:27 seconds of the hundred hockey before Brayden Point scored to give Tampa Bay a 3 -2 win. The game began at 3:09 a.m. at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto and ended at 9:22 a.m., more than an hour after the Canes game was scheduled to begin. With the uncertainty overtime, plus a mandatory 90-minute gap between games, the Hurricanes and Bruins shot close to a 11 a.m. start.
Storm Watch starring Alec Campbell begins at 99.9 the Fan at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning with the opening field closed for 11:09 p.m. Mike Maniscalco and Tripp Tracy will have the call of action on the radio, as will Fox Sports Carolinas.
