Cam Newton’s arrival in New England sparked mixed feelings, both from fans and critics. The departure of the legendary Tom Brady has opened QB’s starting place on the list.
Jarett Stidham was running to grab that opening until Cam Newton took the spot from his hands.
Newton, now 30, is not the same player he was when he won the 2015 NFL MVP award with Carolina Panthers. However, he seems determined to prove his enemies wrong this season.
A former teammate believes that Cam Newton’s fiercely competitive nature and Bill Belichick’s hunger to win could become a dangerous combination for NFL teams to play in 2020.

Former Cam Newton teammate issues warning bell to NFL teams
While speaking on SiriusXM NFL radio, former Cam Newton teammate Greg Van Roten had only one message to give the rest of the NFL ‘Be Prepared’.
“It is (Cam Newton) a headache for the game plan.” So when he’s healthy, you can stop his career, but then you have to defend the pass. If you can stop the pass, well then you must account for the race.
“So basically choose one thing and he will do the other. And then you pair it with Belichick, who only cares about winning and Cam really wants to prove herself, so it’s definitely a recipe for disaster for the rest of the league if they can solve it. “ Van Roten said as transcribed by the NFL Network.
Van Roten further praised the winner of the 2015 NFL MVP Award. “It’s definitely scary to think if Cam Newton is healthy and on the Belichick offense, you know, in my division, it could be a long year for the other teams, because it changes the rules of the game.
“He came into the league, you know, he’s a most valuable player in the league, he brought a team to the Super Bowl. He just built differently than many quarterbacks.” Van Roten added.

Carolina Panthers was wrong to let Cam Newton go?
Many people would argue otherwise. Cam’s dismal record over the past few seasons, constant injury struggles and internal power play problems led to her departure from Carolina.
Van Roten believes the Panthers could have let their ‘franchise quarterback’ go forever.
“I was surprised, but I also saw it coming, if that makes sense. It was one of those situations where you have this talent, you have this franchise quarterback and you’re going to release him.
“Because, to me, that seems like an interesting business decision, because you can replace a coaching staff, you can get a new exploration department, you can get a new business side of football.
“But when it comes to a franchise quarterback, and there are a lot of teams across the league that will attest to that, you’d better be right, because you’re mortgaging the next few years with that decision.”
“You know, I know Cam had some injury problems in the past, but the guy is a competitor.” Van Roten added.
