Calvin Johnson was selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.
Over the course of his nine seasons with the Detroit Lions, Johnson accumulated 731 catches for 11,619 yards and 83 touchdown catches.
His 5,137 receiving yards from 2011 to 2013 are the highest in a three-year span in NFL history.
On Wednesday night, Johnson joined former Lions security Glover Quin for an in-depth conversation on the YouTube show “The DB Room.”
Over the course of an hour-long conversation, Johnson shared stories from his childhood, his time at Georgia Tech, combining experiences, and his way to the NFL.
His former teammate asked Johnson if he developed a chip on his shoulder, as he was selected second instead of being the best draft pick in 2007.
“Sitting there before the draft, I’m like a shooter, I hope to go to Atlanta,” Johnson said. I played my high school ball, I played my college ball here, and then I played in the NFL here. That would be the best little thing of all. Atlanta got number 7: it might not be there. I hope they change for me. “
Johnson added: “Honestly, I didn’t want to go to Oakland. I didn’t want to cross the country. I didn’t want to go to Detroit. So far north. That’s what happens with the NFL, nobody really has control of where you go unless you are Eli Manning. “
Unfortunately, Johnson’s relationship with the only organization he played in soured when he was asked to return a portion of his signing bonus.
After an introductory period full of technical difficulties, Quin finally corrects the problems and the interview begins correctly at approximately 16 minutes.
