Call of Duty: Warzone Glitch turns players’ guns into scary black cubes

Call of Duty: Warzone has seen multiple reports of a new, often game-breaking glitch, which sees gun textures damaged and, on occasion, turns players into enormous, terrifying cubes of bullet-spitting death. The glitch, which seems to be spreading after the game’s Season 5 patch, can apparently take multiple forms. For some, it affects elements of the gun, such as the double pistols of this player:

For others, the problems are unusual, with glitched gun textures occupying large parts of the screen or completely covering the screen:

In any case, the guns remain fully usable, with some players proud of the fact that they’ve got kills despite the rather big disadvantage of suddenly using a ghostly, eldritch weapon that seems to be in control instead. of Call of Duty.

What is most interesting, however, is the effect it has on other players. When an opponent uses a glitched gun, they are apparently enclosed in a giant, shifting black cube that has no appeal to everyday things like “walls” or “the laws of physics”.

Again, this is a texture issue, which means there’s still a normal character model in the middle of the evil box. It may well be that these players are unaware of the glitch as it happens, as many clips of the glitch show these new and scary cube warriors playing normally and hitting hits while their opponents in general freak.

Developer Infinity Ward appears to be aware of the issue – the public Modern Warfare / Warzone development Trello lists “Reports of corruption appearing at the end of weapons after the last update” as a fix-fix. However, no estimate is given for how long this may take to repair. Some have reported that removing all visual adjustment elements from your own loadout rifles will stop the problem (though removing weapons, if weapons used in the Gulag can still cause the problem).

It’s not perfect timing, given that the game periodically introduces deliberate visual “glitches” that seem to place an announcement for the much-anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. We need to know more about that later today, where several members of the CoD community will receive crates that are not officially open until 9am PT – crates that many think will be linked to the announcement of a new game.
