Call of Duty: Modern Warfare renames controversial ‘Border War’ skin

The new patch for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone adds a few new changes, including a name change for the controversial look of ‘Border Warfare’ on D-Day. The skin has been renamed ‘Home on the Range’. and the game description has been revised accordingly. The original Border War skin was criticized for its anti-immigration connotations and originally the description “showed them the error of their ways and make them pay with the D-Day Border War operator mask.”

The new description has been changed to “play alongside the deer and the antelope with the Home on the Range D-Day operator mask.” Aside from the name and description change, the skin remains the same.

The rest of the patch was devoted to bug fixes and closing a feat where players could pick up the weapons they dropped before the infiltration sequence. In recent months, Activision and Infinity Ward announced redoubled efforts to remove racist names from the game’s online multiplayer lobbies. The study also removed the OK hand gesture due to its recent association with white supremacy.
