Call of Duty League pitcher Momo fired after internal investigation

Activision Blizzard fired Phil “Momo” from the Call of Duty League after allegations of sexual misconduct, including sending inappropriate messages to women, that emerged last week from people in the community.

An individual in the community reportedly showed the allegations to Activision Blizzard directly.

In a statement posted on his Twitter, Momo says he is no longer part of the Call of Duty League, and that an internal Activision investigation is currently underway into the messages he sent to female members of the gaming community.

Effective June 30, 2020, I was released from employment at Activision Blizzard. This decision follows what was described to me as an internal investigation after old messages sent to female members of the gaming community were sent to my employer. For confidentiality reasons, the details of these messages and the recipients were not disclosed, which I fully respect. Therefore, I cannot respond to the specific claims and their context.

The statement he posted on Twitter claims he sent messages to several female members of the gaming community, making many of them feel ‘uncomfortable’ and prompting them to report the messages to Activision Blizzard anonymously.

The generic nature of the complaints is that my messages made recipients uncomfortable. To put it bluntly, in my messages, I was “trying my luck” with women who hadn’t caught my eye, and I was making progress when I shouldn’t have. Some of the exchanges contained sexual content from both sides. I didn’t think at the time that I was making recipients uncomfortable. If I had known this, I would not have continued talking in this way.

Momo says he takes “full ownership” of his actions and regrets the bland humor in his sent messages.

The person I was back then is not the person I am now. I take full ownership of my misjudgments and would emphasize how sorry I am for my conduct. I am sorry for my immaturity, I am sorry for the explicit content or graphic language I used, I am sorry for any tasteless humor, and I am sorry for anyone whom I have offended or suffered in any way as a result of my actions. I hope you read this message and believe these words.

Activision Blizzard has not released a statement in this regard at this time.
