Activision has officially announced Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War as part of a major public event. The details are primarily focused on the single-player campaign, story and character creation tools, but the game’s debut trailer posted multiplayer at the end – and we’ve also learned a few details separately regarding the multiplayer of Cold War, Zombies mode, and Warzone integration, too.
Zombies Mode Is In Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
Treyarch’s signature Zombies mode returns for Black Ops Cold War. Unfortunately, that’s basically all we know – the mode is recorded in some form, and it’ll get new content after launch, just like multiplayer (as mentioned below). Furthermore, we will have to wait until more details about Zombies are shared at a later date.
Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Cross-Gen And Cross-Play
An enormous part of the Cold War multiplayer component is that there will be not only cross-play support, but cross-generation support as well. What this means is that for example, one on PS4 can play against one on Xbox Series X, or another variation between consoles and generations. Cold War is expected to be released on PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X. However, it seems that next-generation upgrades will not be free unless you pay for the $ 70 version of the game or higher.
Battle Royale continues in Warzone
Another important thing to know is that Treyarch is not building a sequel to his own fighting royal game, Blackout, but instead incorporating elements of Cold War into Warzone. Just like Modern Warfare before that, Cold War will have shared progress with Warzone. There will be “inventory items” that can be used in both games.
Activision also claims that existing Warzone players will get all the content they have earned or paid for in Modern Warfare, including Operators, Weapon Blues, and more. Activision will share further specifications on how Cold War and Warzone will work together in the future.
Black Ops Multiplayer for Cold War
Beyond Warzone Cold War will have its own dedicated multiplayer element, but only a few details are available now. There will be a battle pass and a “steady stream” of post-launch DLC dealing with multiplayer maps and modes, along with more “Zombies experiences” and in-game events.
The full details of the multiple modes of the Cold War will be announced on September 9, while additional details of Zombies “in the coming weeks” will be revealed. Activision will have an open beta of Black Ops Cold War prior to the game’s launch. Pre-ordering a digital edition of the game gives you early access to the beta, with PS4 users coming in even sooner than those on other platforms.
Black Ops Cold War will be released on November 13 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game will also launch later this year on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X when these consoles arrive.
